Mycoplasma Testing
Mycoplasma (mollicutes) grow in the presence of cells. Therefore, cell lines should be carefully checked for contamination, as stated in the FDA and EU guidelines.
The FDA note “Points to Consider on the Characterisation of Cell Lines Used to Produce Biologicals” (1993) advises detection of culturable and non-culturable Mycoplasma using indicator DNA fluorochrome staining and by culture.
Accordingly, Texcell has developed a dedicated protocol capable of detecting a broad range of Mycoplasma species encountered in cell lines of human and animal origins.
